The Boy In the Window
He forgot his job for those few seconds and we engaged together on opposite sides of the window. Our fingers slowly crawling up our opposite sides of life. “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” united our hearts for a few moments. A smile crept upon his forlorn face and even his droopy, infected eye caught a glint of light, perhaps hope.
“His boss” came along and whisked him sternly away. His begging jar left empty he glanced back at me, one last time. The little boy in him that came out to play was gone. The grown-hardened beggar was back. He couldn’t have been more than 5 years old.
If more people would look, maybe more people would care. And maybe my little friend and the millions of other children in the streets would finally have a chance with life… maybe. |
